A unique Remembrance Service

In the Beginning…

It was at Birmingham, Autosport International in January 2014, where a hasty conversation between a Tankie - James Cameron and Jon Earp an Army Helicopter Pilot, and a former Scots Guards Officer who was the circuit manager at Anglesey was had discussing a way in which the Motorsport and Forces community could come together to celebrate the Remembrance weekend.

Initially conceived as just a track day, the idea grew and the charity alongside a committed army of volunteers was able to stage an endurance race with a memorial service in November and thus the Race of Remembrance was born.

Now in its eighth year, the 12-hour race run through the night over two days has grown beyond anybody’s wildest imaginations with a starting grid double the size of the first event. As the event has evolved, becoming bigger and better, the profoundly moving and poignant Service of Remembrance remains at the heart of the event.

It is our collective opportunity to reflect on the sacrifice of so many of our own friends and colleagues in recent conflicts, and of those that have gone before.

A fantastic few years…

In 2020, defying the odds and a covid pandemic, Race of Remembrance weekend transformed into a series of virtual events. No longer able to host its annual Race of Remembrance at Anglesey, Mission Motorsport, The Forces’ Motorsport Charity was determined to bring its beneficiaries, friends, supporters, the military community, as well as the wider motorsport community a remembrance Service.

With the help of some very good friends and supporters, the charity was able to hold its first innovative live-streamed “drive-in” Remembrance Service from Thruxton reaching an audience of over 300,000 from across the globe.

Switching the physical race to an online platform, 50 teams raced around the virtual circuit Silverstone in a

6hr endurance race pausing only for the Thruxton “Drive-in” Remembrance service.

Other events included:

  • Pain on the Plain

  • Virtual Heroes Dinner with Natalie Pinkham

  • A variety of fundraising events undertaken by supporters.
