Alex Fogg

Alex Fogg is a former sapper in the Royal Engineers who was administratively discharged on medical grounds in September 2014 following a heart attack. Since then, like many, he has struggled to find enjoyable and sustainable employment and has intermittently been homeless.

Whilst visiting Tedworth House, Alex was referred to Mission Motorsport by another member of the Band of Brothers and subsequently attended a Mission Motorsport open day in late August.

During his visit to Mission Motorsport, an opportunity arose to work with Dragon Racing, a team in the new Formula E race series. The team took Alex on a short work placement, but Alex impressed the team so much that he has just signed a years’ contract with them! Alex will see himself in a dizzying array of exotic locations; including Hong Kong, Marrakesh and Argentina.

Even though Alex will be gaining valuable experience during his time with Dragon Racing, this will not result in a formal qualification so Alex will be undertaking the NVQ Level 3 Diploma in Light Vehicle Maintenance and Repair at Mission Motorsport’s City & Guilds approved training wing, as well as undergoing training in vehicle livery and wrapping.

Alex is an engaging and all round good egg and he will be a great asset to Dragon Racing!

“I was initially introduced to Mission Motorsport through networking at Tedworth house. I was speaking to another Band of Brother who, after hearing my story, referred me to Adam at Mission Motorsport. I didn’t contact Adam for a couple of weeks, and ended up ringing him when times were at their lowest for me. I met Adam at the MM HQ the very next day and was allowed to stay in their accommodation for the rest of the week. After explaining my story and instantly feeling at home, I was sent over to Silverstone for a motorsport introduction weekend. I was then sent to help Dragon Racing in the Formula E race series the next week, where I was later offered a job. I am now working in a great team in a career that has not only changed my life but is also therapeutic for me.”
